Centers and Labs

At the McCallum Graduate School, information technology is part of our past, present and future. High-tech resources enrich students’ academic experience and place Bentley #4 in the national “Most Wired Campus” ranking by Princeton Review and PC Magazine.

Computer ports and wireless coverage in every building afford easy access to the Internet, the Bentley network, and other information sources. Moreover, state-of-the-art learning labs enable students to build skills and test concepts learned in the classroom, with software, databases, and other tools that working professionals use every day. No other university in the United States boasts this array of business resources on a single campus.

TABS Centers and Labs

One of only a handful of such facilities nationwide, the Trading Room brings world financial markets to McCallum students. The facility combines leading-edge technology and real-time data to offer a firsthand look at the intricacies of risk management, asset valuation, and other financial concepts.

The Trading Room is especially valuable for candidates in the MBA and MS in Finance programs; students in other business disciplines may also take advantage of the facility. Software available in the analytical suite includes Bloomberg Professional, Reuters Global Fundamentals, Morningstar Direct, and Thomson One Analytics.

The Center for Marketing Technology is a best-practices lab for studying the complex forces that fuel buying and selling in a global economy. Equipped with powerful, networked desktop PCs and specialized software, the center plays a key role within the MS in Marketing Analytics program.

Students gain a keen appreciation for the tools and techniques that drive better decision-making in marketing, for example, the use of online surveys to test consumer preferences. One recent initiative involved working with a major retailer to evaluate new market and customer opportunities. For another project, students partnered with the Massachusetts-based Trustees of Reservations to identify strategies for promoting environmental engagement among young adults.

Better known by its ACELAB acronym, the Howard A. Winer Accounting Center for Electronic Learning and Business Measurement is home to the cutting-edge technologies that are reshaping the accounting field. The lab is used extensively by MS in Accountancy and MS in Taxation students, who develop knowledge and skills to tackle the expanded roles that accountants play in today’s leading organizations.

Resources include auditing and tax preparation software, data modeling and report generating applications, and other professional tools. More broadly, the ACELAB delivers insight into how information flows through an organization, how financial decisions are made, and how accounting relates to other business functions.

Featured by national media outlets such as the ABC News magazine 20/20, the Design and Usability Center puts the applications and methods employed by web developers, user-interface designers and usability specialists into the hands of graduate students. The facility is the centerpiece of the MS in Human Factors in Information Design program. Students hone expertise by conducting field studies, creating prototypes for user interfaces and web projects, and testing the usability of their designs. The center also provides consulting services to corporate and nonprofit clients from around the world. Hands-on experience with professional projects offers students a competitive advantage in the job market.
